Accident

Last week our pickup was involved in a minor accident. We weren't in it. It was parked across the street (at an angle to the curb where there is parking for the preschool). Someone was leaving the clinic (that is next door to our house). They punched it while backing up and didn't turn into the driving lane at all. They ended up backing all the way across the street and slamming into our pickup. I could hear it from inside the house and knew before I saw it what the noise was. The pickup was hit so hard that it popped the curb, went over the sidewalk, and onto the grass. We filed a report with the Sheriff, but the person who hit us doesn't have insurance. Our insurance will cover the damage, and the Sheriff filed a suit against the person that caused the accident. It looks like everything will be taken care of. I am just glad that it was parked, and only the bumper area was damaged.
D was at work when this occurred, so I had to give the report and take care of a lot of the things myself. Both girls had to stay in the house while I went out (it was windy and cold). It was right at lunch so Bentley was hungry and crabby, and Bria was just concerned and upset about the pickup. Bria was very good to try and entertain Bentley while I was outside. In our little world, that makes for an eventful day!

Baby Mohawk

Bentley's hair is quite long. We have to clip it off to the side to keep it out of her face. It is long enough to make into a Mohawk when we give her a bath. Some days I even find snarls in her hair. Thankfully, she doesn't cry when I comb them out (unlike her big sister).

6 Months Old

On Monday, Bentley was 6 months old. I did my best to take a some pictures, but the lighting was horrible because it was raining outside and our house is just dark. In my attempt to get the best possible pictures I kept adjusting the settings on the camera. The result was over 430 pictures. Thank goodness for digital cameras. Here are a few of them.

Bentley is fascinated by her tongue. Seeing her with her tongue out, or sucking on it, or "chewing" on it is pretty normal.

This is one of the few pictures where she was actually looking toward the camera and smiling. Unless Bria was beside me with a toy, Bentley just wouldn't give me a smile. When I don't have the camera she smiles all the time. Who said kids were cooperative?

A brief smile when I gave her a toy to hold.

Bentley's stats:
Height - 26 inches
Weight - 15 pounds 3 ounces
I don't know what percentiles those are because the clinic here doesn't keep track.

On the solid food front: we have made some progress. She still doesn't open her mouth wide to eat, and the food is quite runny, but she gets most if it down at least at lunch and dinner. Breakfast is a little more difficult. Each day she seems to do a little better. However, it feels like she is still nursing about every 1 1/2 hours. Hopefully, as she gets better with the solids she won't need to eat from me as often. Then again, maybe this is just a growth spurt!

1st Attempt

Yesterday was our first attempt at feeding Bentley solids (baby cereal). She always watched us eat with great interest. However, when it came to her turn she definitely was not interested. I couldn't get her to open her mouth. Not even for an empty spoon to play with. That was quite unusual, as Bentley puts everything in her mouth. She was more interested in examining all of the parts of the seat that she could get her hands on. It looks like we will be waiting a little longer before attempting this again. Maybe watching us eat from this perspective will generate a little more interest. I must say, her lack of interest isn't all that surprising, as she always seems to be happy with things just the way they are. That is the reason she hasn't rolled over after the first time just after Christmas, and she doesn't try to support herself when we prop her up to try sitting.

She looks cute in her seat though.

Since the Last Time

Since my last post, we have taken a quick trip to RC, had D's parents come and stay, and taken a few day trip to J's parents. We have been busy, but I don't have many pictures to show for it. I have gotten lazy when it comes to taking pictures and updating the blog.

D's parents came to RC with us so I could run some errands and D could attend a meeting. We were also able to get together with some friends for supper. It is good to see old friends. The rest of the time was spent playing at home.

Grandpa playing with Bentley, making her laugh, and Bria climbing on Grandpa's back. There was a lot of Bria's games (hide-n-seek, jumping around, coloring, etc.).

We had fun with both of our families. Part of the reason we traveled to J's parents was to see J's sister and her boyfriend who were back. While we were there they got engaged, so we want to say "Congratulations!" again. Here there was again a lot of playing, mostly Bria's games.

The grandparents and aunts and uncles love to entertain the girls, and we are so very grateful.

Wild Hair

Bentley's hair was standing up so much I thought it was quite funny. She was also very smiley. I couldn't resist the picture.

Roll Over

Instead of rolling over, Bentley just turns on her side and leans her head back as far as she can. She doesn't mind being on her tummy, she just doesn't like getting there by herself. We have tried putting a toy out of her reach, but then a helpful older sister thinks she needs to hand Bentley the toy. We will just have to wait for her to roll over in her own time.
